Childhood Immunization Information

A primary series of vaccine is offered to all children and is typically completed at 18 months of age.  Booster shots are required and done generally at 4-6 years of age, prior to entering kindergarten.

Elementary School Immunizations information

Historically the Hepatitis B, HPV, and Meningococcal vaccines are provided by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit in Grade 7 and 8.   Please check the website www.smdhu.org/immsonline to see if your child is up to date.  Contact the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit at 705-721-7520 ext 8827 to book an appointment in Orillia, Huntsville, Gravenhurst, or Barrie.

Secondary School Immunization Information

Students 14-16 years of age are required to received a tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis booster.  Previously done in school during grade 9, this vaccine is now provided in the family doctors office.  Please contact to book an appointment.  Some teens will also benefit from meningococcal vaccines, especially prior to heading off the college or university.

Adult Immunization information

Patients are often surprised to learn of the ongoing need for immunization in adulthood.

A numbers of vaccines are available. We recommend a tetanus booster every 10 years; pertussis “whooping cough” for expectant parents, grandparents and caregivers of newborns; and an annual flu shot.

Depending on your age, occupation and health conditions, other immunizations may be recommended.  These may include HPV immunization to prevent cancer and genital warts (Gardasil), shingles vaccine (Shingrix), pneumococcus “pneumonia” vaccines (Prevnar 20 and Pneumovax 23); Hepatitis A &B, RSV
